Music & Movement

When some people think about children taking part in music and movement programs in preschool and early childhood learning courses, they may think about children running around and singing children’s song lyrics at the top of their lungs. Maybe some think about noisy kids running around the room banging instruments together, causing a ruckus more than they are actually participating in a learning lesson. While this may happen here and there, there are actually benefits to music and movement in a child’s development, just like any other programs like science, reading and writing, and math. Music can help children create an inner experience and move into a shared creative experience. To check out our preschool and to learn more about our early childhood learning programs, contact us today. We have locations in Coon Rapids and Blaine, Minnesota. With affordable prices, flexible hours, and convenient locations, there’s no reason not to enroll in our preschool today.

Benefits Of Music And Movement
Children are naturally drawn to music and begin reacting to it at an early age. Experiencing music, especially in a group setting, can help the child release energy, which can be channeled into creative directions and will also just get them to burn off some energy, especially if there is lots of movement. Children learn more about themselves and others, simply by playing music together and listening to each other. As children work with other children as a part of a team, they learn key social skills and learn how to collaborate in a group setting. In addition to sharpening group skills, music and movement programs allow children to:

Develop Motor Skills
Simply moving their fingers, feet, and toes are all small motor movements that children sharpen as they participate in music and movement courses. They begin to combine small motor skills together to provide coordination. Bigger motor skills, like moving their arms, legs, and torso, dancing around, picking up instruments, and playing with others all help the children perform whole-body movements as they grow older.

Develop Learning Skills
Music and movement has been shown to improve a child's ability to learn, as it can improve their memory, cognitive development, and expressive ability. The physical and cognitive aspects of music and movement create learning domains that contribute to a whole-child learning approach.

Learn How To Express Emotions
Music and movement interactions between children and adults can lead to better communication as well as improved social and emotional coordination. Even further than that, however, music can help children express and control their emotions several different ways. Through listening to music, children can learn to recognize and understand their feelings. Listening to lyrics helps children understand emotions related to certain events or situations.
